About SFLI Micro-courses

Our online Micro-courses are short, focused, non-credit programs designed to provide learners with specific skills and knowledge. These courses bridge the gap between academic research and social praxis. Each course consists of 10 hours of live synchronous content during the last two weeks in June 2026 plus additional independent study.

SFLI Micro-courses are designed for everyone! Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, a working professional, an advocate, or retired, our curriculum is built to be accessible to all lifelong learners.

Most learners complete their course over a two-week period. This includes 10 hours of live synchronous instruction and the necessary time for independent study and projects.

SFLI Micro-courses are non-graded and do not offer academic credit. Each micro-course is designed to provide you with skills for critical reflection and the practical tools you will need to navigate and transform the world around you.

To register for an SFLI Micro-course, you must be 18 years of age or older.

Yes. You may purchase multiple courses during a single checkout. If you enroll in more than one course, you will receive a 10% discount off your total tuition.
Note: Please double-check the dates and times of each offering to ensure your selected courses do not conflict.

SFLI Micro-courses are $420 USD each. As noted above, a 10% multi-course discount is available for students enrolling in two or more courses simultaneously.

Yes. Each course has a dedicated start date. You can find these details on the specific offering pages. Please note that registration closes the day before the course begins.

SFLI offers a limited number of tuition assistance opportunities for each micro-course, awarded on a rolling basis to applicants who demonstrate financial need. For information, contact Melanie, the Program Manager, at melrob@mit.edu.

To participate successfully, learners should be proficient in using email, the internet, and video platforms like Zoom. We recommend using a laptop or desktop computer to complete your coursework effectively.

Full Refund: Requests must be submitted to the Program Manager at least 3 days prior to the course start date.
Non-Refundable: Students who do not attend their scheduled course sessions will not qualify for a refund.
